Overview
Meet White Lake Community Library
For over two decades, Virginia DeMumbrum has watched White Lake Community Library evolve into a beloved hub in rural Michigan. What began as a storytime position turned into a directorship, where Virginia now leads a small but mighty team that delivers yoga classes, summer reading programs, grandmother circles, and more to the community. But when it came to their website, they were stuck—an outdated state-sponsored platform couldn’t keep pace with new accessibility guidelines or modern user expectations.
Switching from State-Sponsored to Streamline
White Lake had relied on a state-funded website program that cost just $200 a year—affordable, but stagnant. As accessibility standards advanced and the support behind that program disappeared, Virginia knew it was time for a change. “Our site looked outdated and was difficult to navigate. There was no support and no updates,” she shared.
Of all the platforms they explored, Streamline stood out for two reasons: affordability and structure. “It was by far the least expensive of all the quotes we got—and my favorite. It offered us exactly what we wanted: just enough structure to keep things professional, and enough freedom to make it our own.”
Designed for Simplicity and Staff Constraints
Like many small libraries, staffing was a major constraint. “We don’t have a tech team or marketing person—we’re stretched thin. But Streamline makes it easy to train multiple staff and keep the site updated,” Virginia said. With intuitive tools like page tracking, link location visibility, and compliance reminders, her team avoids outdated content and stays ahead of state requirements.
Favorite features like carousels, side-page teasers, and related content boxes make it simple to highlight programs and resources, even without dedicated design help. “We love that it looks clean no matter what we do. Our old site was jumbled—this one has real organization.”
A Smooth Launch, a Supportive Process
Despite her initial nerves, Virginia described onboarding as seamless. “Streamline moved everything over, did all the hard work, and we just had a few quick meetings to make tweaks. It was painless.” The site now features a searchable catalog link, integrated digital resources, and a layout that better reflects their services.
